Every material tells a story, from the marble in a hotel lobby to the tactile fabrics in a private residence. But as projects evolve across sectors, how do designers ensure that their choices balance aesthetics, performance, and longevity?

That was the central question of the fifth roundtable of FF&E Talks Season 3, a six-part video series by NGC, produced in collaboration with Commercial Interior Design and Intelier.

As the design world continues to blur the boundaries between hospitality, residential, and commercial spaces, materials have taken on a deeper role, not just as surface selections but as strategic tools for storytelling, performance, and longevity.

Moderated by Marina Mrdjen, founder of Intelier, this latest edition brought together a cross-sector panel of renowned high-end residential designers and FF&E specialists: Kate Instone (Blush International), Sawsan Chammas Haber (Dipiugi Interior Architecture), Ellen Søhoel (XBD Collective), Caio Xerri-Alves (Blak Interiors), Evilin Reji (IDA Interior Design Associates), and Myca Yutuc (XYZ Designers). Together, they explored how to balance creative vision with technical demands and why, in an era of fast trends and shifting budgets, the smartest material choices often start with the story.
